This section of our site is reserved for our very special kids with special needs. One question that is asked frequently is whether we get special funding to help with our shelter. We don't. Our shelter is not funded by the state or the government. Michigan Ferret Rescue survives on the money from adoptions, supply sales and donations. There are many times that we have to dig into our own pockets to pay for the needs of these kids. We are very fortunate to have angels for foster parents, as they take on alot of the financial responsibility for the kids that they foster.
We have tried to do fundraising events, but the average number of ferrets in our shelter system is quite high and we just don't have the time to plan and execute events. We are at 54 unadoptables as of Jan. 1, 2007. Some of those kids need surgery, but the vast majority are kids that are not good candidates for surgery due to health conditions and/or age. Sometimes, the expenses are overwhelming but we always find a way to help the kids. We are trying out a new program in hopes that these kids will get sponsors to help the shelter with their monetary needs. We are not asking for hundreds of dollars, we are just asking for small donation amounts ($5, $10, $25), whatever you can spare to help these kids as they are so worth it and well, if you have read this far, you must also feel the love and compassion for these furry little wonders as we do!
