Surrendering a ferret to Michigan Ferret Rescue
Michigan Ferret Rescue exists because there are times when ferret owners find that they can no longer provide a suitable home for their ferrets.  We understand that sometimes changes can occur in your lifestyle to make this unavoidable. We DO NOT judge anyone for deciding to surrender, in fact, we applaud ferret owners for coming to us for help rather than doing the irresponsible thing like abandoning it. Ferrets cannot survive in the outdoors. Even giving your ferret to a friend or placing an ad in the paper doesn't ensure that it will be taken care of and respected. By placing your ferret(s) with us, you can feel confident that it will receive the utmost care and respect and that it will be placed in a loving and nurturing home.

All of the ferrets that come into our shelter receive quality veterinarian care and are part of a home environment. The ferrets are socialized with people and other ferrets. They get alot of playtime out of the cage and treated with the love and respect that they deserve. If your ferret is terminally ill or in the senior years, we provide continuing hospice. We DO NOT put ferrets down unless there is NO quality of life left.  We are a NO KILL shelter.

Alot of people share a misconception that at ferret shelters, the ferrets are caged and never get interaction. That is NOT so at Michigan Ferret Rescue. Feel free to come in and see how we do things prior to surrendering if that will help.

We don't ask for a fee when you surrender your ferret. We do however accept donations (especially if your ferret needs vaccinations or other medical care). We also ask that you bring at least a bowl full of their food so we know what to feed them and any paperwork that you have on the ferret.

I hope that we have made your decision to surrender easier, you are doing the right thing!
